Non-Resident Asia-New Zealand Fellowships

The Asia New Zealand Foundation Te Whītau Tūhono will be supporting two non-resident fellows in 2025. Fellowships offer unique opportunities for experts to contribute to deeper understanding and collaboration between New Zealand and Asia.

The fellowships provide opportunities for domestic and international experts from the Asia Pacific region to engage in research, commentary, public speaking and networking.

The fellowships support one domestic and one international fellow each year.

2025 Non-Resident Fellows

In February, the Foundation announced the appointment of its inaugural non-resident fellows for 2025: Prof Joseph Chinyong Liow from Singapore and Raf Manji from New Zealand. The Fellowships run from February to December 2025 and will include the delivery of in-depth written analysis as well as public engagements in New Zealand.

What is the purpose of the fellowships?

The purpose of the fellowships is to give domestic and international commentators access to new platforms, readers and audiences.

They enable fellows, and their New Zealand-based counterparts, to broaden their domestic and global networks, as well as exchange ideas, information and perspectives.

The fellowship programme also provides New Zealanders with access to world-leading thinkers and content on some of the most important and pressing issues in the Asia region.
