Porirua poems begin a conversation between islands
Taiwanese artist Hsiao-Lan Fan is using a three-month residency at Whitirea New Zealand to get Taiwan and New Zealand talking – but not in the usual way.
Instead, the “conversation” she proposes takes place through art – in the overlapping images and text that she’s creating with the help of 10 Whitireia art students.
Fan said the project had been a form of cross-cultural exchange. First, she taught the students about Taiwan, then she asked them to give their impressions of the country in a “one-sentence” poem.
