Wellingtonians flock to Southeast Asia Night Market
Wellingtonians flocked in their thousands to the 2010 Southeast Asian Night Market, which took place along the capital's Frank Kitts Promenade on Saturday 20 March.
A highlight for many was the four-member Cynthia Alexander Group who played a mix of standard instruments as well as ethnic Filipino instruments including tungkaling, bungkaka and Maguindanaon brass gongs to produce an East-West hybrid sonic landscape.
Other highlights of the Night Market included open-air Indonesian puppetry with gamelan orchestra, local performers, delicious Southeast Asian food stalls and colourful souvenirs.
