Celebrating Japan in Wellington

The second Japan Festival of Wellington is coming up this weekend! A busy programme of free performances and workshops is scheduled for Sunday 5 September. There will also be a food and craft market next door to the performance stage at the Wellington Town Hall.

Taiko drummers, karate demonstrations, pounding rice for mochi cakes and a tea ceremony demonstration are some of the exciting things on offer. Don't miss the colourful trio Chin-Don Ya Tsushinsha: the street musicians are flying in straight from Japan to demonstrate the centuries-old art of Chin-Don Ya. They will liven up Wellington's CBD and entertain lunchtime crowds on Friday, in the run-up to festival day.
