The Philippines Star internship

The Asia New Zealand Foundation Te Whitau Tuhono is again offering a journalism internship at the Philippine Star newspaper in Manila in 2025. The Foundation's media internship programme provides New Zealand journalism students and recent graduates with experience working at a media organisation in Asia in order to gain a better understanding of the people, places and culture of the host country.

The Star is among the most widely circulated English-language papers in the country, based in a brand new building in the Paranaque area of the Philippines capital, Manila. The paper was launched in 1986, just a few months after the people’s revolt that toppled dictator Ferdinand Marcos.

The Star publishes every day, and runs a comprehensive English-language website looking at every aspect of life in the country of 115 million people.

The Star has had a long association with the media internship programme, with interns describing it as a positive and rewarding experience.
