This report contains findings from a nationally representative survey of more than 1,000 senior secondary school students (in Years 12 and 13) conducted by Colmar Brunton at the end of 2016.

The survey measured students’ level of Asia awareness by asking a number of questions about perceived importance of Asia to New Zealand, cultural competencies and knowledge of Asia.

The findings are compared to an earlier baseline survey conducted in 2012. The report also contains comparisons with related research, including a survey of 1,000 New Zealand adults commissioned by the Asia New Zealand Foundation in July and August 2016.
