The Arnott’s Group Asia internship, Malaysia


The Arnott’s Group Asia and the Asia New Zealand Foundation Te Whītau Tūhono are excited to announce an internship at Arnott's Asia Business Unit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The internship is for third or fourth-year undergraduate students, graduate students or recent graduates who have or are studying towards a degree in business, finance, economics and/or marketing-related fields.

Two interns will be selected for this programme and the internships will take place over three months between November 2024 and February 2025.

During the internship, the interns will be provided with a project to complete and/or other meaningful work.

The purpose of the internship programme is to provide New Zealand tertiary students with an experience of working in a business environment in Asia in order to gain a better understanding of the people, place and culture of the host country.

What you'll do

During the internship, the successful intern will be placed in the Arnott’s Group in Malaysia.

The intern will be given meaningful work relevant to their area of study (with a focus on either marketing on finance) and a mentoring supervisor who will be assigned to monitor the intern’s professional development. 

Marketing Internship

For this role, the applicant should have recently attained or be studying towards a business degree in marketing, economics, accounting or a related degree.

Key responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

  • supporting the current brand marketing team in campaign management, marketing activities and project management
  • building sales and marketing experience through the execution and operations of marketing tactics
  • analysing market performances, competitor activities, campaign efficiencies with report output
  • assisting in the preparation of marketing proposals, campaigns, and key projects.

Finance Internship

For this role, the applicant should be studying for or have recently attained a business degree, preferably in finance, accounting or a related degree.  

Key responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

  • supporting the analysts in their month-end closing and forecasting process
  • preparing monthly analysis reports
  • developing reports for ad-hoc analysis.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • be New Zealand citizens or have permanent resident status
  • be third or fourth-year undergraduate students, graduate students or recent graduates who have or are studying towards a degree in business, finance, economics and/or marketing-related fields.
  • have recently completed or due to complete a relevant degree by November 2024
  • be in good health.

  • have strong analytical skills (able to interpret financial statements)
  • have advanced Excel skills.
  • be adaptable, mature, reliable and resilient
  • be interested in a marketing or finance-related job
  • be interested in a career involving Malaysia or the wider Asia region
  • have a can do attitude. 

What's covered

The Foundation and the Arnott’s Group will jointly deliver pastoral care to provide for the intern’s professional development and overall welfare.

The Foundation will cover:

  • return airfares
  • accommodation
  • most living costs.

 The intern will be required to contribute $500 of their own funds to cover some living expenses while offshore and take out appropriate travel insurance (subsidised by the Foundation).

The Foundation and Arnotts will jointly deliver pastoral care to provide for the intern’s professional development and overall welfare.

Terms and condition

Interns are expected participate in Foundation professional development activities and networking events after they return and seek opportunities to share their internship experience. Sharing your experience with others is an important part of this initiative as it enlightens others about the Foundation, the internship programme and developments in Asia. 

Successful applicants will be required to agree to the standard Terms and Conditions for Asia New Zealand Foundation funding recipients.

Reporting requirements

Foundation interns are expected to write a 600-word article (with accompanying photos) on their internship that will appear on the Foundation’s website (to be submitted during the internship) and write a final three-page report evaluating the internship experience at the end of the programme.

  • Shortlisted applicants will be notified by mid-September 2024.  
  • Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an in-person or online panel interview to select the successful candidate  
  • The successful candidate will be advised by early October 2024  
  • All selected interns will be supported to attend a group induction day in Auckland in late November 2024  
  • The internship will take place between November 2024 and February 2025.
