Air New Zealand internship, Japan


The Asia New Zealand Foundation Te Whītau Tūhono and Air New Zealand are excited to announce the 2024 Air New Zealand Japan internship.

The internship is for final year New Zealand undergraduate students, graduate students and recent graduates who have or are studying towards a degree in business, marketing, communications, or a related field.

The internship is scheduled for three months commencing in November or December 2024, with the dates to be settled after the selection process. 

The intern will be given meaningful work relevant to their area of study and a mentoring supervisor who will be assigned to monitor the intern’s professional development.

The purpose of the Foundation's internship programme is to provide New Zealand tertiary students with an experience of working in a business environment in Asia to gain a better understanding of the people, places and culture of the host country.

What the intern will do

The intern will support Air New Zealand Tokyo's marketing team to produce and publish high quality marketing outputs, including digital content, offline content, presentations and campaign reports that are on brand, accurate and compelling.

Tasks may include, but are not restricted to, supporting the marketing team to: 

  • deliver brand programmes that drive awareness of Air New Zealand, such as safety videos and global marketing campaigns
  • ensure marketing and communications collateral aligns with Air New Zealand brand guidelines
  • liaise with third-party corporates (e.g. Tourism NZ) to plan and deliver joint-venture marketing activities
  • implement online activities such as planning of website/EDM (electronic direct mail), artwork production for digital activities
  • liaise with sales/commercial team members to engage with Japanese travel agencies
    support the delivery of effective PR activities, including media releases and other media-related activities
  • implement Air New Zealand and joint venture events targeting trade, media and consumers
  • plan social media activities.

Eligibilty

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • be New Zealand citizens or have permanent resident status
  • have basic Japanese language skills
  • be final year New Zealand undergraduate students, graduate students or recent graduates who have or are studying towards a degree in business, marketing, communications, or a related field.
  • be in good health.

What's covered

The Foundation will cover the cost of accommodation and most living costs.

Air New Zealand will cover return flights and a meal subsidy on work days.

The intern will be required to:

  • contribute $500 of their own funds to cover some living expenses while offshore
  • take out appropriate travel insurance (subsidised by the Foundation).

The Foundation and Air New Zealand  will jointly deliver pastoral care to provide for the intern’s professional development and overall welfare.

Terms and conditions

Interns are expected participate in Foundation professional development activities and networking events after they return and seek opportunities to share their internship experience. Sharing your experience with others is an important part of this initiative as it enlightens others about the Foundation, the internship programme and developments in Asia. 

Successful applicants will be required to agree to the standard Terms and Conditions for Asia New Zealand Foundation funding recipients.

Reporting requirements

Foundation interns are expected to write a 600-word article (with accompanying photos) on their internship that will appear on the Foundation’s website (to be submitted during the internship) and write a final three-page report evaluating the internship experience at the end of the programme.

  • Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an in-person or online panel interview to select the successful candidate.
  • The successful candidate will be advised by early October.  
  • All selected interns will be supported to attend a group induction day in Auckland in late November 2024.
  • The internship is scheduled for three months commencing in November or December 2024, with the exact dates to be settled after the selection process.
