- China's Rise: A Pacific View
What kind of great power is China becoming? How will Pacific Island countries be affected? Are there specific challenges and opportunities, already evident or foreseeable? If so, how can they best be handled?
Michael Powles, Adjunct Research Fellow, Institute of International Studies at Fudan University in Shanghai, and a former New Zealand Ambassador to China and to the United Nations, has sought to answer these and other questions in a working paper for Fudan University’s Centre for Chinese Foreign Policy Studies, entitled "China's Rise: A Pacific View".

Ongoing shifts in geopolitical power from West to East make the Asia-Pacific region more important to the United States today than ever before. Yet, as Asia’s importance has grown over the last decade, Washington has often been focused elsewhere. The Obama administration needs a more active approach to the Asia-Pacific region that recognises the new geopolitical realities and positions the United States to deal effectively with the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

- Mapping Track II Institutions in New Zealand, Australia and the Asian Region
This 2005 report documents the leading Asia-focused Track 2 institutions in New Zealand, Australia and the Asian region. It outlines where New Zealand either is, or could be, most productively engaged and provides recommendations on how New Zealand might best go about strengthening its Track 2 engagement with Asia.

- New Zealand and the Developing FTA Architecture of the Asia-Pacific Region
Understanding the existing and proposed free trade agreements (FTAs) throughout the Asian region has increased in importance since the indefinite suspension of the WTO's Doha round of trade talks. in 2006, Asia:NZ and the New Zealand Treasury commissioned Dr Robert Scollay to examine trends in preferential trade in the Asia-Pacific region, including simulations of proposed agreements and the impacts on New Zealand.
